The Purpose of Dreams

Dreams have been somewhat of a mystery to man for a long time. Dreams hold many captive at night wondering if it is reality or simply the imagination working overtime. We have all awoke from dreams upset that it wasnt reality and on the same hand, we have woke up thanking God that a terrible nightmare wasnt a reality.

There are many different theories about the meaning, origin, or purpose of dreams. Some believe that dreams are an extension of our subconscious. In other words, we may dream about things that we think about, whether we are aware of our subconscious thoughts or not. Others believe that dreams are a part of REM or Rapid Eye Movement sleep, which helps to restore our minds and bodies while we sleep. Finally, some people believe that dreams are one mode of communication that God uses to send us messages.

I believe that there is some truth to each of these theories of dreams, but I will focus on the theory about God using dreams as a mode of communication with us and what I believe his purpose in communicating with us through dreams is. Although I do believe that God communicates with us through dreams, I dont believe that every dream that we have is from God or even God attempting to communicate with us. Since I believe that some dreams are from God and others arent, this poses the question, How do you know which dreams are from God and which ones arent?. This is a difficult question to answer because there is no scientific answer to this question. My answer to this question is that you will know in your spirit. In other words, the inner voice will say this dream meant something.

Your spirit may even be troubled when you wake up like Nebuchednezzar was in the Bible after he had a dream from God. In the Bible, in Daniel 2:1, it says Nebuchednezzar had dreams; his mind was troubled and he could not sleep. I believe that this was his spirit communicating to him that there was a message in the dreams for him and maybe others. Also, in the Bible, in the book of Daniel 7:15, Daniel states that after having a dream, that he was troubled in spirit and the visions that passed through his mind disturbed him. When I have had dreams that I believe are from God, the same thing has happened to me when I have awoken from a dream from God. I usually will first remember the dream or many parts of it very vividly. Next, I feel unsettled in my spirit, as if something needs to be resolved or settled.

After establishing that God does in fact, communicate with us through our dreams just as he did with Daniel and Nebuchednezzar, and Joseph in their dreams, you may have been wondering why. Why would God choose to communicate with us through our dreams? I believe that God has 6 purposes for communicating to us through our dreams and it is up to us along with our communication with the Holy Spirit to discern which purpose he has for communication with us.

The first purpose that I believe God uses dreams for is to call us to pray or intercede for ourselves and/or others. Sometimes God gives us dreams to call on us to pray about a situation or for a person. If we have a dream about someone or something that we know is not positive, even if we dont know the interpretation of the dream, we can pray and intercede about the situation or for the individual(s). Prayer changes things, so if we are obedient, we can change someones outcome for the better.

The second purpose for our dreams may be to warn us. God may want to warn us about a direction we are headed in or a decision that we are about to make that may be outside of his will and that may lead to destruction. In the Bible, in the book of Daniel, chapter 4, God gave Nebuchednezzar a dream to warn him. King Nebuchednezzar was warned in his dream, that if he didnt acknowledge that God is more powerful than man and things, his power and riches would be taken away from him. Nebuchednezzars warning was to acknowledge and turn to God or lose his earthly privileges. Having this dream and having it interpreted by Daniel, a Godly man, gave Nebuchednezzar the opportunity to take action to avoid disaster and calamity in his life. God gives us this same opportunity if we heed and are obedient to God.

The third purpose for God give us dreams is to give us hope. The Bible says in the Book of Proverbs 13:12 that "Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life." You may be experiencing a dark time in your life and you may be tempted to throw in the towel and give up. God may give you a dream to show you the light that lies ahead and to give you hope in your future. Having a visual image of a dream that he births in us gives us the opportunity to think about and hold onto that vision when things arent going the way we hoped or planned.

The fourth purpose for dreams is to encourage us and encourage others. This goes along with hope, but it may be a bit more subtle. God may want us to share a positive dream with the person we dreamed about to encourage them, or he may just want to encourage us that he is with us and hasnt forsaken us.

The fifth purpose may be to give us confirmation about something that he has either already tried to communicate to us either through our spirit or through someone else. Also, if we asked God for confirmation for something, he may give it to us through our dreams.

Finally, I believe that God communicates with us through our dreams sometimes to let us know that he is God. It is hard to forget or disbelieve in the power of God when he is using something like dreams to communicate with people and ordinary people like Daniel and I to interpret dreams.

If you believe that God has been communicating to you through your dreams, do the following : 1. Pay close attention to them; 2. Write them down in a dream journal as soon as you wake up from the dream, so that you capture all of the important details; 3. Obey his instructions and heed to his warnings, in other words, pray for yourself and others immediately when he calls on you, act when he gives you confirmations that require action, always hold onto hope, and always give God all of the Glory!

Thought Provoking Religious Ideas on Christianity

Do you ever wonder what ever happened to the Wise men's gifts that were given to Jesus's parents? Nobody ever talks about it and it was never mentioned again in the Bible. If it was mentioned again I would love to have somebody e-mail me some more information on what Joseph and Mary did with the gifts, that were given to the newborn King or in other words Jesus.

I didn't come up with this idea on my own, I was reading a book by George Seaver called Albert Schweitzer "The Man and His Mind." I found the book in a thrift store near Seattle, Washington while on vacation visiting one of my relatives. I heard a lot about Albert Schweitzer from various personal development and spiritual books and thought this book would be give me some insight on the man.

I really had no clue, that I would find something like this within the first few pages.

Here's a quote from the book.

When I was eight my father, at my own request, gave me a New Testament, which I read eagerly. Among the stories which interested me most was that of the Wise Man from the East. What did the parents of Jesus due, I asked myself, with the gold and other valuables that they got from the Wise men? How could they have been poor after that? And that the Wise men should never have troubled themselves again about the child Jesus, was to me uncomprehensible.

Now this is coming from an eight year old child, not someone who has researched biblical scripture their whole lives. What else are we missing in the Bible that doesn't make sense but we were trained to believe in our religions without ever questioning your religion . It's definitely something to think about and the next time you're reading something or listening to the news on TV, try to figure out if it's fact or fiction.

You definitely cannot believe everything you read or hear from outside sources. I heard once that the only things that are truly real are the things that never change. If you think about it, most things change and therefore would not be considered real.

Ponder That for a While.

Is Guilt Feeding on Your Conscience, Affecting Your Subconscious Mind Negatively?

Guilt is one of the largest causes of stress in your life. Stop reading this article for a second and think about the people in your lives that often make you feel guilty.

Now did you really stop reading the article and think about the people in your life who make you feel guilty? Okay well if you did this get back to the guilty feelings so many of us have. Guilt goes all the way back to your childhood, your parents, teachers, friends and relatives have gotten to be pretty good at it over the years, often learning from the same group of people when they were children.

Guilt is definitely a big part of our society and can be found almost everywhere you turn. Have you ever turned the television on to notice a commercial about weight loss. A large majority of Americans are overweight and are targets for a guilt creating society.

I was reading a book on writing magazine articles, when they mentioned a fact that I never thought of, most women's magazines run articles on dieting in every issue. Guilt sells magazines.

Do you think weight loss, dieting or nutritional eating habits, sell magazines? If your answer is no, you should check the financial statements of these companies. They know what sells magazines and guilt or fear is one of their best friends. If you answered yes to the question, you won't have to suffer from the guilt of not knowing the answer.

Guilt seems to work on our subconscious mind in negative ways, often producing harmful thoughts that create stressful feelings in our lives. The longer these negative thoughts are held as truths, the harder it's going to be on our self esteem.

If you find yourself around people that make you feel guilty for something you do or don't do on a regular basis, I would suggest finding new people to hang around with. Gathering negative information from people you consider your friends can only create more damage to your conscience.

If you truly and sincerely do not like something about yourself, tell your friends in a nice way, that you would rather talk about your problems in a negative way. If they have constructive and helpful comments, you would love to hear them. Guilt causes stress and stress can lead to death. If you don't believe that, do some research on stress related illnesses.

Religious Fanaticism and How Jim Jones Impacted on My Life

"To the extent the actions in Jonestown were viewed as a mass suicide, it is one of the largest such mass suicides in history, and the greatest single loss of American civilian life in a non-natural disaster until the events of September 11, 2001. One of those who died at the nearby airstrip was Leo Ryan, who became the only Congressman murdered in the line of duty in the history of the United States."

This is a quote from Wikipedia, you can find out a little bit more about Jim Jones by searching Wikipedia or the Internet.

It was November 18, 1978, I was in the 11th grade, living and Anaheim, California when I heard the news about a man and a group of followers that I would think about often throughout the rest of my life. I didn't know Jim Jones or any of the followers but their impact will leave a lasting impression on me for the rest of my life.

As a teenager, during a critical part of my life. I was always trying to understand things that the government, religious and world leaders were doing. Often very confused. I was confused about the life of Christ and couldn't quite get a grip on evolution and creation. I could always count on getting one thing from every person I had ever met, and that was an opinion, with very little factual information to back it up.

It was hard for me to imagine, that anyone would follow another mortal being the distances that Peoples Temple's followers had followed Jim Jones. I guess I could understand this in a supreme being or supreme race extraterrestrial beings, with magical powers and supreme knowledge of the universe. But a regular person, I don't think so.

I rarely watched the news on television and gathered most of my information from teachers and other students who I went to school with. There was an English teacher whom I was fond of and she let the class express how they felt, about what had happened and only then did I realize, this had actually happened. It was real.

I couldn't believe that people were this stupid. How could anyone commit suicide like this? I could understand something like this happening 500 or maybe a thousand years ago but in 1978, it's not possible. I started to get a better understanding as I learned more about Jim Jones and The Peoples Temple based in San Francisco, California. I could understand, that religion offers people hope and we all need a little bit, if not a lot of hope. Hope helps us get through our humdrum and boring everyday lives.

These people were hoping for a better life and when there was no more hope in sight and these people would be going back to live in America, with nothing (most of the people had given everything they owned to The Peoples Temple) I could understand this a little bit better but not clearly enough. When people have no hope or they feel like they're at the bottom of the valley, looking up at an impossible hill to climb, I could see where suicide becomes a viable option.

Looking at 9/11, most of the people that died, had hope. What happened in Jonestown Guyana was a lot different, most of these people did not have hope but all had a reason to live, but chose death. Was this actually their choice or were they so caught up in someone else's dream that they couldn't see reality anymore. There are still fanatical leaders today, causing pain and grief all over the world. Jim Jones was not the first and he won't be the last, make sure you're not one of the victims if this ever happens again.

Over 900 people died that day and I hope we never have to see something like this ever again.

Sir Winston Churchill - "A fanatic is one who can't change his mind and won't change the subject."

Here's a question I would like you to think about, winning or losing with Christianity. Fanatical groups like Jim Jones are not a thing of the past, make sure that, what ever religious organization you are following is not leading you down the wrong path. Use common sense and if that doesn't sound right, it probably isn't

Achieving Your Objectives Every Time - Goal Setting 101

If you want to achieve your objectives in sports, politics, leadership, career or business then you are going to have to concentrate on the details, just as much as you do the end goal. In fact, you must break your end goal into little tiny goals that you can accomplish along the way and you must treat these little tiny goals as important as the dream or end goal.

Have you ever heard that saying; "The Devil is in the Details? Well, perhaps he really is and thus, if you do not pay attention to the details the devil will and he will destroy all your chances for success. It's not difficult to break your larger goals into smaller ones, you will find this comes quite naturally when you divide up tasks you need to accomplish when you do most anything.

The difference is that when you apply this strategy to your personal goals it will work just as easy as when you apply this technique to your educational or career goals. For instance, you cannot merely get a PhD in one step. You must take tons of classes, attend all the classes get decent grades, and then do your dissertation, which in itself must be broken down into many smaller tasks to complete such an undertaking.

The trick to achieving your Objectives Every Time is to use a strategy that works for you. I recommend that you try my Goal Setting 101Challenge. Take any goal you have big or small and break it into very tiny bite size tasks, assign each task to be completed a drop dead date, a date in which you must complete it.

Then stretch that out to the date you need to complete it by and schedule yourself out a work sheet and complete each little goal as if it were the big goal. Oh and you must reward yourself along the way for staying on target. If you do that you will accomplish your goal and have more confidence for the next important goal you set. Anything is possible.

Four Sure-Fire Ways to NOT Achieve Your New Year's Resolutions

Most people tend to give up on making New Year's Resolution simply because they claim they do not work. Below are some sure ways to totally sink your New Year's Resolutions (if you have made any).

1. Create a Total Lack Of Clarity in What You Want

Just make statements such as "I want to be more successful", "I want more customers" or even "I want more money". Unsuccessful people tend to make generalized statements about what they want. One big problem is that they will never know whether they have reached it or not. Successful People tend to be very specific in what they want- "Success to me means that I want to get on track to exercising regularly 3 times a week on every Monday, Wednesday and Friday night at 9pm" or "I want to see my customer base increase 8% this year". They tend to print many copies of their resolutions and pint them up in areas most visible. This goes with the saying, "Out of sight, out of mind."

2. Create Unrealistic Expectations With No Milestone Planning

One typical example is a weight lost expectation: I want to lose 13.2 pounds (or 6 kg) this quarter. Or another: I want to increase my income by 5 times. They do so without doing anything different from last year. If you want to increase your income by 5-fold, what you are currently doing has to change and starting creating new strategies for it. Creating milestones are also important in helping you keep track where you are in your goal. Whole year goals should be mixed with quarterly goals so that you know where you are going and can celebrate when you achieve them along the way. Celebration is an important aspect of getting results.

3. Do Not Come Up With A Plan To Achieve It

Dreams are great, and most of the time the first thing to achieve your dreams is to wake up! Unsuccessful people tend to just WANT things or results. They may not want to put in a plan to specify how they intend to achieve results. As the saying goes, if you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Successful people usually have a plan (may not be the perfect plan) that will ensure that they will draw closer to the desired results. They know that plans can change according to the situations and remain flexible.

4. They Do Not Share Their Intentions With Other People

From my experience, most people believe that we should just keep our resolutions quiet and ensure that others do not know about it. This is so that when one fails, no one will know. However, if you intend to achieve it, shout it out and ensure that your best friends, colleagues or even (gasp!) family members know about it. When you put yourself on the line, you tend to achieve it. This is because there are people around you reminding you of what you have said!

So... what are you waiting for? Can you share with me your plans?

World's Worst Mass-Murderers - Religious Extremism Or Enlightened Secularism?

History - Written in Blood

The history of the world has been written in blood, until recently by dominating religions, intolerant of other faiths or beliefs: from dark-age pogroms, to early Islam's rampages, to the Crusades, to conquest of the New World, to the Inquisition, and to Stalin and Hitler and genocidal Holocaust. Throughout this gory litany, peace-seeking philosophers, war-weary, have dreamed periodically of a world without conflict. Other than the cultures and countries which worshipped the glory of mortal combat, e.g. the rulers and elite citizenry of ancient Rome, Sparta and more recently Prussia, most philosophers, and certainly at-risk commoners throughout history have dreamed of quiet lives without conflict or violence, safe from both external and internal attacks upon their freedoms and persons, hoping only to be permitted to enjoy their families and accomplishments in peace - and to die in bed at a respectable age.

Early on, wars were fought and peoples murdered to spread religion, coercive conversions forcing acceptance of the God of a dominant power. Dismayed at the carnage, rational humankind philosophized that no true divinity could tolerate, much less demand, such unwarranted cruelty - hence they must all be false - hence an anti-religion philosophy of rule-by-rationality should-be superior. Mankind began searching out a workable approach to peaceful governance - coexistence among peoples of differing faiths and philosophies - without bloodshed. By an "either-or" argument, if God and Religion seemed to be more cause than solution, perhaps durable peace could be achieved between nations - if "faith" would be discarded and replaced with "reason".

Such daring thinking was envisioned, then espoused - the concept of "enlightened" rule was developed - a peaceful society, governed by fairness in rules of conduct and justice; it was embarked upon and grew, with democratized liberation of countries from prior religious domination. Such optimistic and exciting "Enlightenment" theories took root, conceptually non-tyrannical authority being envisaged - neither rule by royal-lineage nor by divinity figures, instead leaders to be selected from the populace by majority choice, government by rational, impartial laws and justice, replacing religious dogmatism. The theory was implemented with confidence, preamble efforts beginning in (1776 in the US - excluded hereinafter, and) 1794 with the French Revolution. The ringing phrase "Liberte, Egalite, Fraternite" became the slogan of hope in France .

This expectation of a better approach was, however, short-lived, lasting but two years - ending with a parade of citizens, deemed unworthy of life, escorted to the guillotine - and a flood of blood. Subsequently, perhaps inevitably, the pendulum of non-religions or "enlightened" governance went into "overswing" - the world experiencing (perhaps) the ultimate in authoritarian rule based upon the moral compass of mere men - dictatorships - Communism and Nazi-ism!

Extremism of religious ideology and bigotry in living memory as well as recorded history, cannot be denied. Millions of lives have been taken by hatred as frenzied zealots of one religion held power over others - oft-times given a no-win choice, forced conversion or the sword. Even greater extremism is evident today, the virulence being obvious in the venue selection - where civilians, especially children gather - bloodied body-parts of innocents are shown in lurid photos and described in every newspaper - blown-up in buses, restaurants, marketplaces, houses of worship. Human intolerance of faiths other than their own, especially during outbreaks of mob psychology - particularly when exhorting a divine "commandment" to kill "the infidel" - are spurred on by inflammatory and instantaneous distribution of world news. Such bloodshed is even more commonplace today than in the past. So what is the carnage scorecard?

Undoubtedly hundreds of thousands of helpless human beings have been killed by the excesses of religion in recorded history, inflamed zealots, dark-age pogroms, genocides leading to the Holocaust, and present-day Islamo-terrorists. However, in contrast, when the supreme decision authority for life and death has been placed in human ethical standards of morality and justification, the pursuit of ever-greater powers and conquests are apparently irresistible. Rationalizations and cold assessments of benefits and advantages seem to easily overwhelm restraint - leading to carnage and ferocity - greatly exceeding even inflamed religious bigotry. Instead of the envisaged tolerance and fraternity, the end result of political experiments in "enlightened" human authority has been both unanticipated and uninhibited, the untethering of the worst instincts of human beings.

Over 100 Million Killed

Totaling the score can only be done in round numbers, but despotic rulers have caused over 100 million people being killed - by Communism and Nazi-ism within this past century: China, Soviet Union, North Korea, Cambodia, Africa, Afghanistan, and Nazi Europe. These human beings were killed, not in battle or by faith-based hatreds ("if your god is not my god, then you must die"), but from an ideology that denied "faith" itself ("There is no god, only man is the judge of right and wrong!"). With "political correctness" holding sway, it is religion itself that is targeted.

The history of humankind is a history of killing, not for food as in the animal kingdom, but to increase power, dominance of peoples and for land-mass acquisition. Today, of the world religions, all but one seem to have grown beyond desires to kill or compel conversions of other faiths, only the Muslim religion seems to still justify the sacrifice of not only their own lives but also those of their own children, in order to deny others a desired worship of their own gods.

Clearly, man's warlike nature is not curbed by devotion to a divinity. But the record shows that governance and morality considerations - which if not restrained by considerations superior to human authority - seems to lead to rationalizations for abuses with much more extreme end-results. Human nature, absent the moral and ethical compass of religion and with authority without limitation, seems to the inevitable justification of the ultimate in extremism, rationalizing away impediments to increasing authority and acquisition - mass murder without conscience.

The Devil and the Mystery

Most Christians know more about the devil than they know about "The Mystery." Even so, they do not know any more about the devil than they should know. They should know more about him, so that they can truthfully say, with Paul, "We are not ignorant of his devices" (II Cor. 2:11). Certainly every Christian should know more about "The Mystery." God wants every Christian to know "The Mystery," and to make it known to others (Eph. 3:9). You say, "Then it would no longer be "The Mystery." Certainly not. Why after over 2,000 years should this divine truth still be a mystery so far as ninety-nine per cent of God's people are concerned? Can you answer this question? It is true that the devil doesn't want any one to understand or even study this divine truth. But is not God's will to be desired by Christians more than Satan's? Doesn't God's power exceed the devil's power? Satan is mighty. God is almighty. Genuine spiritual Christians know that God's power exceeds Satan's power.

But let's take an inventory. As we take in the world-wide political situation, the distress of nations, with even the so-called Christian nations on the verge of bankruptcy and destruction, we may wonder that Satan has such power after 2,000 years of Christianity. But we believe that Satan knew what he was talking about in Luke 4:6 when he told the Lord Jesus that the kingdoms of the world were under his control. The Lord was right when He called Satan "the prince of this world."

When we consider the millions and millions of people of the world religiously, and see what the devil has done to them, surely we give a hearty "Amen" to the statement of I John 5:19, "the whole world lieth in [the evil one]." In his tricks to keep sinners away from the saving gospel of Christ, Satan is called "the god of this [age]" (II Cor. 4:3,4). To accomplish his purpose with people who want some kind of a so-called Christian religion, the devil transforms himself into an angel of light and instructs his servants to pretend that they are missionaries of Christ (II Cor. 11:13-15).

Then let us consider what the devil has done with Church members who are actually members of Christ's Body, God's one and only Church today. Note God's instructions in Ephesians 4:3-6:

"Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one Body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling: one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all."

Meditate"the unity of the Spirit." Where is it found? One faith, one hope of your calling, one baptism. One Body. How many sects and denominations? Several hundred. How many bodies? One Body. Note Ephesians 1:20-23:

"Which He wrought in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead, and set Him at His own right hand in [the heavenlies]. Far above all principality and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: and hath put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be the Head over all things to the Church, which is His Body, the fulness of Him that filleth all in all."

Christ is in the heavenlies. Christ is the one Head of His one and only Church, which is His Body, "the fulness of Him that filleth all in all."

No matter how loyal, zealous sectarians may defend and contend for their denominational churches, the student of the Word of God knows that "denominationalism" is absolutely unscriptural. There is one, and only one, true Bible Church and that Bible Church is denominated, The Body of Christ, "the fulness of Him that filleth all in all." In Ephesians 3:6 that one Church is called the "Joint-Body" (see the Greek).

Members of Christ's Body are seated with Christ in the heavenlies and are blessed with all spiritual blessings in the heavenlies (Eph. 2:6 and 1:3). One reason why God wants all men to see "The Mystery" is expressed in Ephesians 3:10,11:

"To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in [the heavenlies] might be known by the Church the manifold wisdom of God, according to the eternal purpose which He purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord."

The Mystery then, is divine truth concerning "the heavenlies" and "according to the eternal purpose which God purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord." By searching the Scriptures we find that this divine message was not in fulfillment of prophecy, but was a spiritual program predestinated by God before the foundation of the world.

We have seen how Satan works politically as "the prince of this world"; how, as "the god of this age" he blinds the unbeliever to keep him from believing the gospel of salvation. In Ephesians 6:11-20 we learn of Satan's spiritual wickedness in the heavenlies, his opposition to the message and the messenger of "The Mystery," divine truth concerning the heavenlies. Note Ephesians 6:11,12:

"Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places [in the heavenlies]."

And note Ephesians 6:19,20:

"And [pray] for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak."

Why was Paul a prisoner of Rome? Hear his own words: for "the mystery of the gospel." Read this again in Colossians 4:3,4 and hear his testimony in Ephesians 3:1-3:

"For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles. If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God, which is given me to you-ward: how that by revelation He made known unto me the Mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words)."

Note God's Word in Ephesians 3:9:

"And to make all men see what is the [dispensation] of the Mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God."

Here we see "the dispensation of the grace of God" and the dispensation of the Mystery are linked together. This glorious truth was made known by revelation to the Apostle Paul, who became the prisoner of Jesus Christ for the Gentiles. Do we appreciate what he suffered for us? Let's get into the Book and try to understand the message for which he suffered.

While Paul knew that religious men were opposed to "The Mystery" and were determined that he should not preach that divine truth, he knew that he was not wrestling against flesh and blood; that his real opponent was the devil as the ruler of world darkness in the heavenlies.

Paul wrote in II Corinthians 4:3 and 4 that Satan blinded minds. But note his request for a very specific prayer in Ephesians 1:17,18:

"That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him: the eyes of your understanding being enlightened, that ye may know what is the hope of His calling, and what the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints."

Paul did not want minds blinded to "The Mystery." He knew that it required a special spirit of wisdom and revelation to comprehend that particular glorious truth.

Yes, the devil succeeded in getting Paul in jail for "The Mystery," bound as an evil doer unto chains. But from his prison cell he wrote: "The Word of God is not bound."

God wants you to know and to make known this glorious truth...which should have ceased to be a mystery more than twenty centuries ago.

Undines - Nature Spirits of the Water

According to legends around the world, an undine is a water nymph or water spirit. Undines can be found in any type of body of water, particularly forest pools and waterfalls. They are said to have beautiful voices, which are sometimes heard over the sound of the water. In Scotland, undines are referred to as wraiths of the water.

According to some folklore traditions, undines can take human form, thereby losing their immortality but gaining a soul. This misleading notion has led them to be a popular motif in romantic and tragic literature. Undines are sometimes referred to as nixes, nasty water sprites with mean temperaments. This is another unfortunate characterization of undines. Likewise, undines are often confused with mermaids and sea goddesses.

Paracelsus, a Swiss philosopher of the 15th century, believed that undines and other nature spirits occupied a realm between that of humans and spirit. Although they resemble man in physical form, they are more akin to the spirit realm in their abilities.

They are actually one of the four main types of nature spirits: gnomes (earth element), sylphs (air element), undines (water element) and fiery salamanders (fire element). Since water is critical for human life and all life on the earth, undines understandably play a significant role in mythology and esoteric traditions.

Undines, along with other nature spirits, are guardians of the earth. Undines are under the direction of their hierarchs, Neptune and Luara. Undines are particularly involved in clearing bodies of water of pollution and other chemical hazards. Undines play an important role in the spiritual world and in the maintenance of the balance and purity of the physical platform of the earth for mankind's evolution.

Marking 50 Years of Achebe's Things Fall Apart - Maintaining a Proud Presence in World Literature

50 years ago in 1958 a young Nigerian, Chinua Achebe, at the young age of 28, made major breakthrough for African Literature with the publication of his novel Things Fall Apart. This novel became widely read and recommended in schools and colleges all over the world. I could remember reading it for two years in succession 30 years ago when I was in secondary school in Freetown, Sierra Leone, and all of us in the class were as thrilled not only by the events but by the infectiously fresh idioms and imageries used to describe characters and scenes.

Up to now the imageries that lard the texture of the narrative still have place in the lexicon of my students. The most common included that comparing the speedy growth of Okonkwo's reputation and power: to "a bushfire in the harmattan" and that if a man should say yes his chi, his personal god, should also say yes, in accord with him. Unoka, Okonkwo's father, the "agbala" soon had his counterparts identified amongst us as much as were the fools and weaklings dubbed 'efulefus'. But Unoka was not seen as such a hateful character as his son was trying to make him, for he seemed like a lively fun-lover who had no problem with anyone, except of course his son who was ever burning with the hatred of a failed parentage and heritage as his father spent most of his time playing flute and drinking palmwine unmindful about tomorrow. I have had to read, teach, lecture, discuss, read and reread with new layers of meaning and interpretations unveiling themselves to me at each stage in that joyful cycle of engagement with it, with the text taking a permanent place in the imagination.

I am still trying to retrieve an essay I wrote whilst doing my masters on Achebe's unique style across his novels, then restricted to Things Fall Apart, No Longer at Ease, A Man of the People and Arrow of God. For Anthills of the Savannah had not yet been written. So when I read the preamble to Joyce Ashuntantang"s interview of the literary sage in "50 Years After "Things Fall Apart": A Chat with Chinua Achebe" it was as if she was a spokeperson for our experience which I expect might be one all across Africa, especially. She recalled many secondary school children who were not macho enough ending up with the nickname "agbala" which meant womanly, a derogatory reference to a man in Umuofia who had not taken any titles as was the case with Unoka. Another name she identified was "efulefu" meaning worthless person,

Many of the proverbs from the text have flown beyond Umuofia to Anglo-literate communities across Africa like ours in Sierra Leone, Cameroon, Ghana and Gambia. For example, "The lizard that jumped from the high Iroko tree to the ground said he would praise himself if no one else did"; "Eneke the bird says that since men have learned to shoot without missing I have learned to fly without perching"; "A child who washes his hands can dine with elders"; "An old woman is always uneasy when dry bones are mentioned in a proverb".

Chinua Achebe's fate was being sealed from 1948, when in preparation for independence, Nigeria's first university, now the University of Ibadan, opened, as an associate college of the University of London.

Achebe obtained such high marks in the college entrance examination that he was admitted in its first intake with a bursary to study medicine.

After a year of gruelling work, however, deciding that science was not made for him, he changed to English, history, and theology. But this switch cost him his scholarship. He now had to pay his tuition fees. Luckily, he received a government bursary, which helped him halfway together with money contributed by his family. His older brother, Augustine, gave up money for a trip home from his job as a civil servant to enable Chinua continue his studies. From its inception, the university had a strong English faculty which attracted the brightest intakes including those who like Achebe were to become famous writers like Wole Soyinka, Elechi Amadi, John Pepper Clark, Christopher Okigbo and, Kole Omotoso.

In 1950 Achebe made a further advance towards his literary goal when he wrote his first piece entitled,"Polar Undergraduate" for the University Herald even serving as its editor during the 1951-2 school year.Through irony and humour it celebrates the intellectual vigour of his classmates. He followed this with other essays and letters about philosophy and freedom in academia, some of which were published in another campus magazine, The Bug.

Achebe then wrote his first short story, "In a Village Church", which combines details of life in rural Nigeria with Christian institutions and icons, a style which was to be of much use in many of his later works. Other short stories he wrote during his time at Ibadan include "The Old Order in Conflict with the New" and "Dead Men's Path" which examine conflicts between tradition and modernity, with an eye toward promoting dialogue and understanding on both sides. Professor Geoffrey Parrinder's arrival at the university to teach comparative religion, set Achebe on exploring the fields of Christian history and African traditional religions.

He was now becoming critical of European literature about Africa.like Irish novelist Joyce Cary's Mister Johnson, about a cheerful Nigerian man who was working for an abusive British store owner for which Achebe and some of his classmates could not conceal their dislike . One of his classmates even went as far as announcing to the professor that the only enjoyable moment in the book is when Johnson is shot . In amother move to cultural nationalism, Achebe renounced his British name, Albert, replacing it with his indigenous name "Chinua."

At the end of his undergraduate studies in 1953 Achebe was so disappointrf at being awarded a second-class degree and not the first class that he had been expecting that he became uncertain as to how to proceed after that. So he returned to his hometown, Ogidi, to sort through his options. There, a friend from the university who visited him convinced him to apply for an English teaching position at the Merchants of Light school at Oba, a ramshackle institution with a crumbling infrastructure and a meagre library built on what the residents called "bad bush" or evil forest as a similar area in Things Fall Apart is called - a section of land thought to be tainted by unfriendly or evil spirits which was what was allocated to the Christian missionaries to build their church with the hope that they would not survive the evil spirits..

As a teacher, Achebe encouraged his students to be original in their work and read extensively. As the students did not have access to the newspapers he had read as a student, he made his own available in the classroom. But after four months here he grabbed an opportunity which arose in 1954 to work for the Nigerian Broadcasting Service (NBS), in Lagos, and left.

Achebe was assigned to the Talks Department, where he was responsible for preparing scripts for oral delivery, a task which helped him master the subtle nuances between written and spoken language, thus enabling him later to write realistic dialogue with ease. The city of Lagos, a huge conurbation teeming with recent migrants from the rural villages also made a significant impression on him, as it did on Ekwensi. Achebe revelled in the social and political activities around him later drawing upon such experiences when describing the city in No Longer At Ease.

While in Lagos, Achebe started work on a novel though quite a challenging task, since very little African fiction apart from Amos Tutuola's Palm-Wine Drinkard (1952) and Cyprian Ekwensi's People of the City (1954) had been written in English. While appreciating Ekwensi's work, Achebe worked hard to develop his own style, even as he pioneered the creation of the Nigerian novel itself. Queen Elizabeth II's visit to Nigeria in 1956 which brought issues of colonialism and politics further to the surface, was a significant moment for Achebe.

His first trip outside Nigeria also in 1956, when he was to undergo training in London at the Staff School run by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).was an opportunity for Achebe to advance his technical production skills, and to solicit feedback on his novel. In London he met a novelist, Gilbert Phelps, to whom he showed the manuscript. Phelps with great enthusiasm, asked Achebe if he could show it to his editor and publishers. Achebe declined, insisting that it needed more work.

On his return to Nigeria, Achebe started revising and editing it, now titled Things Fall Apart drawn from a line in the Irish poet, William Butler Yeats' poem "The Second Coming". He concentrated only on the story of a yam farmer, Okonkwo, adding sections, improving various chapters, and restructuring and tightening the prose.

By 1957 having sculpted it to his liking, he took advantage of an advertisement offering a typing service to send the only copy of his handwritten manuscript (along with the #22 fee) to the London company. He waited several months without receiving any communication from them, and began to worry.

So when his boss, Angela Beattie, was going to London on her annual leave he requested her to visit the company and act on his behalf which she did rather decisively, angrily demanding why it was lying ignored in the corner of the office. The company quickly sent a typed copy to Achebe. Beattie's intervention thus rescued and revived Achebe's spirit thus enabling him to continue as a writer. Had the novel been lost, he would have been so discouraged that he would probably have given up altogether.

In 1958 Achebe sent his novel to the agent earlier recommended by Gilbert Phelps in London. The agent upon receiving it sent it to several publishing houses. Some rejected it immediately, claiming that fiction from African writers had no market potential. Finally it reached the office of Heinemann. Executives there hesitated until an educational adviser, Donald MacRae, - just back from a trip through west Africa - read it and forced the company's hand with his succinct report: "This is the best novel I have read since the war"

In the book Okonkwo haunted by the failure of his father - a shiftless debtor fond of playing the flute and drinking palmwine - tortures himself not to resemble him in any way by working hard and not showing any feelings or compassion. It also evplores the complications and contradictions that arise within him and in the wider community when white missionaries arrive in his village of Umuofia. Exploring the cultural conflict, particularly after the first encounter between Igbo tradition and Christian doctrine and European administration that ensues, the novel shows the crumbling of the infexible and inhumane structures of Umuofia along with the equally infexible Okonkwo. Achebe thus retold the history of colonization from the point of view of the colonized, in reversal of previous images presented. For Achebe's emergence as "the founding father of African literature ... in the English language," is traceable to his reaction to Joyce Cary's novel Mister Johnson, set in Achebe's native Nigeria which he studied at the University College in Ibadan. In a curriculum full of Shakespeare, Coleridge, and Wordsworth, Mister Johnson stood out as one of the few books about Africa which Time magazine recently declared the "best book ever written about Africa," but Achebe and his classmates had quite a decidedly hostile reaction to. For they saw the Nigerian hero as an "embarrassing nitwit," as Achebe writes in , Home and Exile, and detected in the Irish author's descriptions of Nigerians "an undertow of uncharitableness ... a contagion of distaste, hatred, and mockery." Mister Johnson, Achebe writes, "open[ed] my eyes to the fact that my home was under attack and that my home was not merely a house or a town but, more importantly, an awakening story."

Home and Exile, which describes this transition to a new era in literature is then both a kind of autobiography and a rumination on the power stories have to create a sense of dispossession or to confer strength, depending on who is wielding the pen. Achebe depicts his gradual realization that Mister Johnson was just one in a long line of books written by Westerners that presented Africans to the world in a way that Africans didn't agree with or recognize, and he examines the "process of 're-storying' peoples who had been knocked silent by all kinds of dispossession." He hopes -- that this "re-storying" will continue and will eventually result in a "balance of stories among the world's peoples."

Things Fall Apart marked a turning point for African authors, who began to take back the narrative of the so-called "dark continent."

The style of Achebe's fiction draws heavily on the oral tradition of the Igbo. He weaves folk tales into the fabric of his stories, thus illuminating community values in both the content and the form of the storytelling. The tale about the Earth and Sky , for example, emphasises the interdependence of the masculine and the feminine. Although Nwoye enjoys hearing his mother tell the tale, Okonkwo's dislike for it is evidence of his imbalance. Later, Nwoye avoids beatings from his father by pretending to dislike such "women's stories".

Achebe' s free but deft use of proverbs, which often illustrate the values of the rural Igbo tradition. sprinkled throughout the narratives, repeating points made in conversation is deft. For Achebe, however, proverbs and folk stories are not the sum total of the oral Igbo tradition. In combining philosophical thought and public performance into the use of oratory - "speech artistry" -, his characters exhibit what he called "a matter of individual excellence ... part of Igbo culture." as Okonkwo's friend Obierika voices the most impassioned oratory, crystallising the events and their significance for the village.

Ceremonial dancing and the singing of folk songs also reflect the realities of Igbo tradition. The elderly Uchendu, attempting to shake Okonkwo out of his self-pity, refers to a song sung after the death of a woman: "For whom is it well, for whom is it well? There is no one for whom it is well." This song contrasts with the "gay and rollicking tunes of evangelism" sung later by the white missionaries.

Okonkwo's tragedy perhaps could be seen as emanating from his furious manhood overpowering everything feminine in his life, including his own conscience. For example, when he feels awful after killing his adopted son, he asks himself: "When did you become a shivering old woman?" All things feminine are distasteful to him, in part because they remind him of his father's laziness and cowardice. The women in the novel, meanwhile, are obedient, quiet, and absent from positions of authority - despite the fact that Igbo women were traditionally involved in village leadership. Nevertheless, the need for feminine balance is highlighted by Ani, the earth goddess, and the extended discussion of "Nneka" ("Mother is supreme") in chapter fourteen. Okonkwo's defeat is seen by some as a consequence of his suppression of a balancing feminine ethos.

Heinemann published 2,000 hardcover copies of Things Fall Apart on 17 June 1958. According to Alan Hill, employed by the publisher at the time, the company did not "touch a word of it" in preparation for release. The book received such a rousing reception that merits a whole book or at least an article to detail.Mean while as we celebrate 50 years of Things Fall Apart the book keeps moving into new corners of the globe while holding and tickling the imagination of those of us who have grown and fed on it for decades.

Breathing Your Troubles Away - The Way You Breathe Can Heal and Transform Your Life

The breath has the capacity to ease pain and soften tension. When you concentrate on breathing, your mind is able to gather together all its scattered energies. Your mind becomes much more focused, quiet, and clear. In fact, when you focus on your breathing, you are in the present, in the here and now. You are able to truly shift from one state of consciousness to another.

The Breath Moves Consciousness

Some great thinkers have actually said that the breath has the power to actually move matter and consciousness to new states of being. The breath is the life force.. When you focus on breathing, you focus on directing the life force within you This focuses and quiets your mind and helps you move energy. That's why it's so powerful to breathe into your difficulties. It moves them, shifts them, transforms them.

Rapid, Anxious Breathing

Notice your breathing when you feel anxious and uncentered. It's high up in your chest, and it's shallow and rapid. Some people feel as if their feet are going to leave the ground. Others break out into pronounced sweats. Rapid breathing and fear thoughts can create the perception of anxiety.

By breathing more deeply and bringing your breath down into your belly, you'll feel a greater sense of peace. You pay attention to what's bothering you, then breathe into your issues and breathe them out deeply transforms your life experiences.

Constricted Breathing

When you open and relax your breathing, you're able to release and transform old habits of mind with greater ease. The Buddha said, "Being sensitive to the whole body, the yogi breathes in; being sensitive to the whole body, the yogi breathes out."

When we inhale, the air comes into the inner world. When we exhale, the air goes out to the outer world. The inner world is limitless, and the outer world is also limitless. . . . Actually, there is just one whole world. -Shunryu Suzuki, The Enlightened Mind

From Pain To Power: Suicide, Part One; The Big "Why?"

Just last week, I heard of another friend who committed suicide.

I can think, offhand, of about five people, not including him, whom Ive been somewhat close to, whove made that choice in my lifetime of 55 years. Sad to say, but my immediate thought when writing this was, That aint bad, considering the state of the world and the challenges of living!

Corey (name changed) was special to me in that I had been a part of a healing ceremony with him where, essentially, he was baptized by fire. I believe I witnessed his physical transformation from a man hounded by personal demons into a man willing to face life squarely. It was a phenomenal experience that happened in an instant. Youd expect someone like Robert DeNiro to pull an instantaneous, visible, change like that off, but the actor would be doing it so we could see it, whereas what we witnessed in Corey was the choice to be it.

Transformations like that happen all the time. We say to ourselves, Well, in Coreys case, it didnt hold very well, did it? But who are we, who keep on going, to say?

What I havent mentioned is that Ive been an integral part of one or another stage of two hundred or more suicides. I was in emergency services as an ambulance paramedic for twelve years, and I doubt theres a phase Ive missed in whatever process there may be. In those and subsequent years, Ive counseled many on the brink. Of those whom Ive counseled, I dont know that any have followed through on the act. Usually, the encounters were flashes of despair that dissipated over time (more on this, later).

But the first thing I say to someone whom I counsel is Yes, suicide is an option.

I come from the point of view that it happens enough, it is such an integral part of the experience of being human, that it could not be otherwise than an option. No matter how much you may try to regulate it, you cannot stop it. You cannot even stem its tide by promising eternal damnation. Its something we do, and some of us more happily than others.

Yes, I said more happily. In conversation, Im sure youve heard of the term shit-eating grin. In the ambulance trade it refers to a look of complete relief and contentment on the face of a dead body. I have encountered these kinds of facial expressions most often in suicides.

With most everyone else, if there is any clearly definable expression at all its in the vein of What the Hell? Get me outta here! The grins of these suicides, however, speak, Ive made it!

Generalization is a trap, of course, and by no means am I saying that suicides are a happy thing. The point I wish to make is that suicide can be as much a vehicle of personal empowerment as it appears to be evidence of resounding defeat.

To live is to get scarred. No one gets out alive -- in the form we have right now, anyhow. The only difference for any of us is when. There is not a one of us who isnt doing something to hasten our own deaths, if nothing else than clinging to a belief in it.

What we do with our lives is a function of choice, which is so sacred even God doesnt mess with it. Free will has no limitations, which means even causing our own deaths (which happens all the time) is a gift offered by life.

What our impressions of life are what our interpretations of our circumstances are is what our lives become. If we interpret our lives as intolerable, with the only outlet remaining to be death at our own hands, then that is exactly what it will be. To the person who commits suicide, it is a by-product of their considered, not casual interpretation of their circumstances.

By no means am I advocating suicide. I am just suggesting that those who are left behind make room to see the world through the eyes of the person who has cashed in his or her chips. If you begin from the place that, for the individual, her world-view was valid, under the circumstances you may be able to grasp that taking her own life was appropriate.

Its funny how we use phrases like, those who are left behind, or, we, who carry on, or, the ones remaining to describe who is left after the dying go and these not being specific to suicides. The implication, as Buddha says, is that life is suffering. We all know and experience this. Perhaps the wonder is not that so many people commit suicide, but that so many more of us dont.

Next, walking in the others shoes.

Finding Something You Don't Like About Yourself - Creating Habits

Finding something you don't like about yourself is usually very easy for most people. Most of the time you don't even have to ask your family or friends because you have heard them complain about the same thing for years. How many times have you heard someone mention, I need to lose weight?

Here's a list of things people don't like about themselves. If you're one of those people that has a hard time finding something wrong with yourself, you could always ask one of your friends for some suggestions. I'm sure they would like that.

1. The need to lose weight. This of course is one of the worst problems with Americans. Most people need to lose weight and let's not forget there are some people that need to gain weight.

2. The need to stop gambling. As more Indian reservations are allowed to build gambling casinos and of course as the Internet gambling gets larger, I've noticed some people with gambling problems.

3. The need to stop drinking alcohol. The abuse of alcohol has been going on for many years. These people have an excuse for why they drink and most of the time it doesn't make sense.

4. The need to stop smoking. This could be one of the most difficult things I've ever seen my friends and family deal with.

5. The need to stop excessive behaviors. For example, gossiping, cruelty, bullying, lying, cheating, stealing, partying etc. You get the idea.

6. Don't forget the dreaded shopaholic. Most shopaholic's seem to have large credit card debt and can't seem to stop this vicious circle of buying and owing money to their creditors.

7. Working long hours or the workaholic. Sometimes this is a necessity but I would suggest that you change your lifestyle if possible. Reevaluate your reasons for working so hard.

8. Religious fundamentalists. People that spend too much time at their place of worship and soon find themselves feeling guilty if they're not doing something spiritual.

9. The need to be on time. This would include people that have problems giving themselves enough time to get ready for work or school.

10. The need to stop doing drugs. I thought by now, approaching my 50s, that drugs would no longer be a problem in the United States, but it is. It's one of the most damaging things people can do to their lives.

There are plenty of things that people would like to stop doing or start doing. If you're a smoker and you seem to shop excessively near the casinos, I would advise you to start with something small and work your way up to the big stuff.

What are you going to change today about your life? Make a list of things that you're not happy with about your life and start making the changes today that you need to create the life you deserve and desire.

Putting God on Trial

I was listening to something interesting the other day when someone mentioned putting God on trial for some of the atrocities in the world. If God is the creator of the universe and all that is, or all that ever will be, how can we put him on trial, he's our creator. We can't put our spiritual master on trial can we, he'll just escape anyway if we convict him, won't he. He's got to be smart enough to break out a prison.

As a child I often thought about God and why he would allow such suffering throughout the world. It never made sense to me when I was child and it still doesn't make sense to me today. Why would the creator, want us to suffer, with even the littlest of problems. Other religions have explained it as if God was teaching us a lesson and that's why we have hardships in our lives.

Do you think God ever went through these hardships? Did God have problems finding a job or gathering some food? Does God even eat? Okay now I'm getting off the topic here,(I wonder what God does eat)... if children do something wrong, most of the time their parents will discipline or correct them. If adults to things wrong, the government will discipline and reprimand them. Sometimes these punishments can be severe. It depends on the crimes committed.

If man has to be put on trial for committing crimes like murder, genocide, and general atrocities towards mankind, should God also be put on trial or is he above man because he's God. I can't imagine the creator of the universe ever being put on trial for man's crimes against humanity or other men, but it seems like someone who is all powerful and all knowing could help his children out of this little mess that we're in today.

Couldn't God help us like we help our children. We as parents might not have all the answers, but we do not claim to have them. We are not all powerful and all knowing, like we would assume God to be. When is God going to help us solve some of our major world problems, like genocide and starvation.

Putting God on trial might not solve all of our problems today but it would be nice to have some help with our problems. If he created us to please him, do we have to go on trial one day, for all the things we did or ignored while we were alive. Something to think about isn't it.

Take the Job Then Do it Right

If you have an older home there's a good chance you have one by six diagonal floor sheeting and some of the knots have fallen out by now. Some of these large knots can create safety hazards for your home. Performing major remodels or whole house renovations on older homes you can run into quite a few problems with these kinds of wood floors.

One of the first things I do is remove the carpeting and padding. This exposes the floor sheeting for further examination. By the time I am done with all the plumbing and electrical repairs underneath the subfloor it seems that some of the 1 x 6 has been damaged. Your first thought of course is just to replace the 1 x 6 that is damaged and be done with it.

This is one way to approach the problem, another is to repair the 1 x 6 that was damaged and install half inch plywood over the existing floor sheeting. Please make sure the floor is level and has no humps or dips in it before you start installing the new plywood over the existing floor sheeting.

I ran into a problem like this on one job where the contractor was in a hurry to finish the flooring and chose to go right over the existing floor that was out of level. The bad part about this is when the homeowner chose to go with expensive wood flooring throughout his home. When you walked in to the front of his house you felt like you were going out to a small wheelchair ramp for about 10 feet and then of course it felt like you were going down for another 6 feet.

In order to repair this properly it would've taken the other contractor about 24 hours to repair the floor. In this case the homeowner would have been glad to pay for the repair after the fact. Sometimes when contractors mention a potential problem down the road and how much it will cost to repair that problem, most homeowners cannot see the value in the contractor's opinion at that time.

I felt sorry for the homeowner because this was not what he wanted and he was upset with the contractor but the job was done. This is my warning to any contractor, handyman or home repair specialists. When installing a new plywood floor over an existing floor to strengthen it up, use some common sense and repair the floor correctly or don't do the job at all.

Dreams and Dreams Interpretation

What is a Dream?

In the bible, Proverbs 18:16, "A gift opens the way for the giver and ushers him into the presence of the great."

Dream is defined as a sequence of images that passes through a sleeping person, much like a video show except that the emotions are also contained within the dream. Everyone have dreams but most people do not know that their dreams do have significant impact on their real life. Dream serves to warn, instruct, direct, and foretell future events in a person's life.

Are dreams significant in a person's life?

Dreams are the messages of the night. It is also called visions of darkness, because it is during deep sleep that our inner soul becomes sensitive to the spiritual realm. The messages or events in the dreamscape are highly coded and symbolic in nature. These symbols are specific to the dreamer and so a dream dictionary can not be accurately applied for dream interpretation.

Dreams can truly benefit the recipient only when it is properly interpreted. A wrong interpretation can result in a lost of benefits. Some dreams occur from having too much activity during the day and it only reflects our mood, this kind of dream does not carry any significant messages. There are however, certain dreams which bring us warning of future events in our life and these are prophetic dreams and we should pay special attention.

Types of Dreams

There are basically 3 major types of dreams.

Type I is the carnal dreams that come from the internal spirit of the person. . Dream can also speak of some past troubles that we have not properly dealt with when fear, anger or some strong emotions are the common stage of the factors that become embedded in our spirit nature.

Type II is the Spiritual Prophetic dreams which is sent by God to foretell the future. This type of dream almost always speaks about the future and they are the most important ones we are to take note of.

Type III is the dream we get when we are hyper active during the day and our spirit is still recording the events of the day despite our body coming to rest in the sleep mode. This type is more confusing and leads to disturbed sleep. Images during this sleep will be haphazard and disjointed.

How are dreams interpreted?

Dreams Interpretation is a gift, it can not be easily learnt in a class setting, but it however can be imparted by a spiritual mentor. Impartation refers to the spiritual laying of hands upon the person and saying a prayer over them.
Dream is a form of divine communication that connect God with to us since God promised to tell his servant what is to come. Dream is a more complete and authentic communication because it is a four dimensional message, it contains events, people, feelings and words or symbols.

The dreams are interpreted much the same as the instantaneous flow of prophetic utterance. Peace with assurance that comes from the interpretation will be the only guidance that ascertains the truth. Of course this peace and assurance is of the Holy Spirit and it also has to conform to the biblical word of God. In the book of Hosea 12:10, the bible says "I have also spoken by the prophets, and have multiplied visions; I have given symbols through the witness of the prophets." This refers to prophetic dreams.

The meaning which appears in the interpreter's mind comes naturally almost as if he knows the answers before he speaks. But this knowing is not of human origin it is divinely injected into the human spirit (in this case the interpreter) so that the meaning will not be abused or manipulated for selfish reasons. Although anyone can claim that they can interpret dreams, the difference between true and false interpretation is that the truth will come to pass but the false interpretation will not come to pass.

Philippines 4:7, "And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

Isaiah 9:6, "For unto us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting father, Prince of Peace."

1Corin 14:33, "For God is not a God of disorder but of peace."

JOSEPH THE KING OF DREAMS

Joseph's first dream was about rising high above his brothers. His brothers' 11 salves bow down to his salves of straw.
Joseph's second dream of rising was about his brothers and parents. The sun moon and eleven stars pay homage to him.

When God sends you two dreams on the same matter, it will surely come to pass without fail. The bible says that a matter must be established by two unchangeable facts; Matthew 18:16, 2 Corinthians 13:1 and Deuteronomy 19:15.

So why did God favor Joseph? Joseph honored his father Jacob and was obedient and trustworthy so he was chosen to be trained in God's school of the pits. In Psalm 32:8, Joseph was chosen to display God's glory; naturally God showed him favor else he would be in prison for a long time. He was told the future of what God is going to do to Egypt but he was also told how to solve the problem. Knowing is only half the solution without the how to do it, knowledge is useless. God does not give us a dream of warning and then we are to pray about it, in fact, we are to order our natural life around the dream so that we will not be affected by the crisis.

Joseph's Interpretation of Dreams

Someone's problem becomes our promotion and God's making us famous by marketing us to the key people in the world.

Joseph's first dream interpretation for the Cupbearer and the Baker was a preparation for him to meet the most powerful man in Egypt. In Genesis 40:1, God caused them to dream, and they were the people close to the Pharaoh, such that when Pharaoh had a dream he will know who to ask. God is logical and work within his physical laws and ways. He is a God of decent order.

Joseph's second dream interpretation regarding the Pharaoh's two different dreams; one about the corns and the other about the cows was God's divine plan to exalt Joseph over Egypt. God caused Pharaoh to have those dreams.

Only the anointed one from God is able to answer this riddle because God was the one who sent this message and he also sends his interpretation to provide answers. Does God still do this today? Yes, He does. Why does he do it still, since the Holy Spirit has been given? Notice that Wisdom comes from God. Look at the gifts of the Holy Spirit; he does not give one man all the gifts except in the case of Jesus.

Most Christians and some bible teachers don't understand how the baptism of the Holy Spirit comes about. When someone is baptized in water, they do not automatically receive the Holy Spirit as some preachers will insist. Truth is truth and we can not insist that something must happen just because we believed it to be so. Only Jesus Christ is the baptizer of the Spirit and only Jesus can authenticate a gift and since it's a gift, not all people are called to be interpreter of dreams.

My people suffer from the lack of knowledge, Hosea 4:6. What kind of knowledge? Those who walk in a specific gifting can speak in that area of anointing and those without speak what they do not know nor understand, they only heard about it, talk about it, but they can not show you how to operate in it. They are clouds without rain, empty vessel masquerading as truth.
In 1 Corinthian 2:9, "However, it is written: No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him. But God has revealed it to us by his Spirit."

Finally, dream Interpretation is a spiritual gift, and if you have a dream but choose to consult someone who lacks the wisdom and integrity, it could cause chaos in your life. As many practitioner can and will manipulate its meaning for profit. Therefore, I usually advocate consulting only matured honorable Christians who are gifted in this area and who still abide in the vine of God's word. I pray that you will have divine messages of the night from our Lord Jesus Christ. Features of a Real Profound Spiritual Revival - And This is So Greatly Needed Today

Many are praying for revival - for a real genuine spiritual revival in these present days. A number of leaders meet together regularly each month in Inverness with the specific goal of praying for revival. I have been attending these Prayer Meetings for three years. This has made some of us study and read about "revival" What in essence is Revival? That can only be answered and described partially in this brief article.

One man, Duncan Campbell from the Western Isles in Scotland explained it this way. "REVIVAL is a community saturated with God. And so it was in Wales away back in 1904! . Reports speak of "an overwhelming sense of God's presence and holiness at homes, at work, in shops," even in the pubs - even in the bars!

Powerful conviction of sin follows. Many lay flat on the ground in an agony of conviction. Some people fell in a heap and cried out pitifully and loudly for mercy.

Conviction triggers off intense prayer and repentance towards God, but also confession and restitution towards man. The most remarkable confessions of sin were highly costly. Church members and officers publicly confessed hidden sin in their hearts. This resulted in long-standing debts being paid, stolen goods returned, church and family feuds healed and enemies reconciled. O how we need to see that today.

Once sin has been dealt with, the presence of God releases an overwhelming outburst of praise. It always does. A meeting would continue for eight hours with scenes of wild jubilation - but controlled jubilation - nothing outrageous.

Worship, praise, prayer, Bible reading, witnessing - these become the Christian's whole life. Meetings couldn't be closed and went on all night, when Revival broke out across Wales. Men came in their work clothes with their next day's lunch packed. In Wales, we are told, prayer meetings were held in mines, trams and businesses.

Shops sold out of Bibles.

Great numbers of people accept Christ: 70,000 in two months, 85,000 in five, and more than 100,000 in half a year. By the end of the Revival in Wales, around 90 per cent of the people of Wales were attending church.

So the nation is changed. Its values become Christian. In some Welsh districts drunkenness halved, pubs went bankrupt, police had nothing to do, magistrates had no cases to try.

And because "righteousness exalts a nation," prosperity often follows, not least because of honesty in business and work done as unto the Lord God Almighty. Strikes were settled. In one situation, the now-converted trouble-maker asked if he could go back to work. Managers reported their men both better workers and more regular attenders.

Working people took their aged parents home from the workhouse.

But do Revivals last? Dr. Edwin Orr says the Welsh Revival was maintained until 1914 and its converts were "The choicest segment of church life, even in the 1930s." Of course, it lasts if what happened was real and truly of God.

Who wouldn't want this? A tenth of the population newly converted and still going strong 25 years on! Churches crammed to capacity!

Crime greatly diminished! Social problems solved! What Christian would dare to criticise such a wonderful work of God?

O, there were those who criticised. A feature of many Revivals is strong criticism from leading Christians. How very strange!

Essential Oils Can Help Attention Deficit Disorder

Attention deficit disorder in children (ADD) and attention deficit hyperactive disorder in adults (ADHD) can manifest with lots of different symptoms. It is estimated that over 8 million adults suffer from some form of ADHD in the United States. This condition can be marked by inattentiveness, difficulty getting work done, procrastination and/or organization problems. Sound familiar? Actually many undiagnosed adults live chaotic lives and try to handle their symptoms with drugs and alcohol. Treatment in children and adults has been with medication and behavior therapy. Can anything from nature be of assistance? YES! Research conducted by Dr. Terry Friedmann MD several years ago used essential oils simply through inhalation with very positive results.

Essential Oils Can Help

In Dr. Friedmann's study, essential oils showed significant results in 60 days in decreasing ADD and ADHD symptoms. The oils he used in his study included vetiver, cedarwood and lavender which he proposed stimulated the limbic system of the brain where emotions are controlled. Vetiver and cedarwood are both high in sesquiterpenes, a compound that crosses the blood-brain barrier. Can they help bring clarity and focused concentration? Many believe they can with daily use. The lavender in his study aided in relaxation. This is actually a great combination of oils. I would recommend inhaling the oils one at a time and if using them on the body, then layering them rather than mixing them into a single blend. Other oils that have been found to be helpful in ADD and ADHD are sandalwood, cardamom, peppermint, and frankincense.

There is some evidence that attention deficit disorder may be caused by mineral deficiencies in the diet. That would make sense since we know that the vitamin and mineral content of our food chain as decreased over the past fifty years. Many believe that by increasing the daily intake of magnesium, potassium and other trace minerals that it can help to resolve ADD. Want to know more about how oils decrease ADD and ADHD symptoms?

Feel Your Body From Within When You Wake Up in the Morning

This morning I woke up very slowly and consciously, feeling my spirit re-entering my body after a night's sleep - a night of connecting to the Universe and being one with the higher Self.

As I reconnected, my energies were expanded at a very fine level of my being and I could feel the spiritual glow being put back on the physical body.

As I became aware of my physical body from the perspective of my spiritual essence, it felt like a hologram of spaced out flesh - flesh that was not solid; flesh that one could pass through.

As the spiritual essence aligned with the body again and connected, the aura became very strong and energized. I could feel the spiritual glow flowing throughout and around the body.

Surges of energy flowed up and down the body on a spiritual level. They reconnected to the muscles; and as the muscles became active, surges of energy went through the nervous system, contracting and releasing them.

I noticed a glow in the tummy area; my tummy felt slightly empty after the night's sleep, and it felt really good as the body drew in nourishment from its reserves and the fat was absorbed back into the digestive system.

I noticed how good this is, feeling free from pain; just the glow of life flowing through and around my body, as the body came back to energized life for another day, acting within the three-dimensional reality of normal human consciousness.

I am on holiday at the moment and it is good just to take time to be, and to allow the awareness to look at life from a different perspective.

When you are aware of the subtle energies within your body, you do get a whole new perspective on life and the environment, as you see everything as a part of your Self and made of the same subtle energy.

I feel this is all a part of the New Earth Consciousness, where awareness has refined to such a subtle level that we literally see the light flowing from the object of our vision into our eye, connecting us physically in a web of energy.

We see the sea of air which we live in, connecting everything together and filling the space in between. We see the air carrying the water vapour and forming clouds in the sky, and we feel the wind while the energy it contains searches for equilibrium and balance in the barometric pressures.

It is good to feel alive.

It is time now to fully come back to the physical reality for a new day; we can put our subtle feelings on the back burner, and reconnect to the mind and normal thought processes, so that we can plan our day's activities and live a productive, supportive, loving life for all the people we may meet during the day.

Interview for "Memoirs of a Shape-Shifter" author Thomas Kaplan-Maxfield

Reader Views is very pleased to be talking with Thomas
Kaplan-Maxfield, author of "Memoirs of a Shape-Shifter,"
a gothic tale about a contemporary woman.

Juanita: Thank you for talking with us today Thomas. You have
penned a very intriguing tale with deep Gothic undertones. Please
tell us the inspiration for writing "Memoirs of a Shape-Shifter."

Thomas: The main inspiration is my love of love. I teach a class at
Boston College called "Love and Other Difficulties" (which by the way is always oversubscribed), and
it seems it's always been something of primary concern to me--and to all of us. Memoirs is a love
story, first and foremost. But I wanted to write a particular kind of love story, which engaged another
central concern of mine, which is the matter of American literature. I think any serious writer should
undertake the large issues that are concerned with one's art. Leslie Fiedler, in "Love and Death in the
American Novel" argues that all American fiction is gothic--and to him that means American literature
is more about horror or fear than about love. He points out that while European novels have
concerned themselves with the problems of mature love, American novels to a great extent have not--
and all the American classics have not.

So I wanted to pose a problem for myself and see if I could solve it: is it possible to write a novel that
begins as a gothic novel--indeed uses overt gothic techniques like ghosts, hauntings, the return of
the past, and push such a novel into being about mature love? In other words, would it be possible to
push American literature into a place where it can take up the matter of mature love?

Since I also teach a course on gothic literature, I'm familiar with the genre and love it. I don't know if
the novel succeeds in solving the problem I set for myself, but it's an attempt.

Lastly, I'd say the inspiration for the novel came from many women I've known over the years, some of
whom live in Cambridge, Massachusetts. One of the primary things Boston and Cambridge are known
for is colleges. Everyone here is educated--or like me, educated beyond their intelligence. One of the
effects, sometimes, of too much education is that it can interfere with the natural flow between the
sexes. So we end up with a lot of soft men concerned with finding themselves, and a lot of women who
hate men because of the patriarchy, etc. The result is a confusion of love and power, I believe. I
specifically wanted to take a particular woman, Nikki Helmik, who is such a Cambridge woman--
gorgeous, intelligent, severely independent--and see if she could, by means of a lot of self discovery,
figure out the difference between love and power.

Juanita: What kind of research went into preparing for this book and how long was it in the making?

Thomas: The book took me nearly ten years to write, from conception through six or seven revisions.
Any novel takes as much or more research as a dissertation, for example--that Mt. Everest of
research projects. I had stacks of books on Celtic lore and civilization, Wicca, Druids, magic, natural
healing. And then there were the histories of Gloucester, where the book is set, and everything that
coalesces around Gloucester--fishing, the granite quarries, and its place in New England history. As
all great novels are about the spirit of place, I wanted to evoke as much as I was able in the spirit of
Gloucester, and see what it had to teach Nikki, how the town itself, the land, the sea, right there, this
place, could show her and teach her.

Juanita: Please tell us in your words, the storyline of "Memoirs of a Shape-Shifter."

Thomas: Since it's partly a gothic novel, the story line is a bit complex. Essentially Memoirs tells the
story of Nikki Helmik, who returns to her hometown when her parents die. There she falls in love with
Philip Eveless, who is the son of her one-time mentor, Rose. Rose was married to Ernest, and
together they were the richest and most powerful couple in Gloucester. Nikki is angry at herself for
falling in love with Philip, and in her attempt to get away from him and, according to her, discover her
power, she discovers she's descended from a Druid princess and Shape-Shifter named Anne Cleves.
Anne has left a journal which Nikki translates, and in so doing comes to understand the difference
between love and power, and to resolve her love for Philip. --One of the reasons the book is so long
is that Anne's journal is included in the book.

Juanita: Did you base any of the characters on people you know, and is there any of you in "Memoirs
of a Shape-Shifter?"

Thomas: I based Nikki on several women I've known over the years, as I mentioned. And then the
more one revises, the further the character gets from actual people and the more like herself she
becomes. At this point I don't see any actual woman I know when I look at Nikki. I was intentional about
not using myself in any of the characters, although that's a bit ingenuous, since a writer is always
using his own material, voices, likes and dislikes. You can't avoid it.

Juanita: What are the similarities between Nikki and her ancestor Anne Cleves?

Thomas: Nikki and I were sort of arguing all through the writing of the book, so speaking for myself, I'd
say they are more alike than Nikki thinks, and less. Anne has solved the problem of love and power,
because she's lived through it, and she's had teachers show her the way--both male and female. In
addition, Anne has something we in the modern world often lack, which is a container--call it a
tradition, history, purpose--that helps mold her. But Nikki is like Anne in starting out devaluing love
and overvaluing power. Anne's story is intended to parallel Nikki's, in that sense; Anne leads Nikki,
initiates her into a new way of seeing.

Juanita: Why is finding Anne's journal at this point in her life, so vital to Nikki?

Thomas: It comes at a time when Nikki is at her wit's end with regard to many aspects of her life: she's
quit being a lawyer, she's running out of money, she's conflicted about living in her parents' home,
she hates herself for loving Philip, she's feeling herself growing older--and in our world that's rather
the worst sin a woman can commit, unfortunately. Anne's journal therefore comes as a door into a
different world. And it takes an immense amount of work for Nikki to translate it, even with help. So she
has to subsume herself to the work--as if the work, the journal, the translation--were more important
than her personal worries. I think that's always a good thing in our lives--when our egos get
relativized. We experience it as a kind of Copernican revolution, and it can be frightening--the loss of
what we imagine is our autonomy, but it can also be refreshing to find out that you are merely a
character in a much larger drama.

Juanita: What is Nikki's message to readers of "Memoirs of a Shape-Shifter"?

Thomas: Nikki, like Anne, is a survivor. Someone once defined adults as survivors, and so I'd say
that's her essential message: that persistence and work, combined with a willingness to follow one's
problems to their roots. And then of course love; always love in spite of oneself.

Juanita: This book is considered a historic fiction. How real is the history and documentation of the
Celtic religion and various settings in your book?

Thomas: I did a tremendous amount of research for the book, especially in the areas of Wicca and
Celtic/Druid cultures. Early on I was told by a Wiccan editor and friend of mine, Peg Aloi, that I had
better clear up the confusions I had between the cultural traditions--in short, decide whether the book
was going to be about witches or Druids. Yet most of what I read suggested that the two traditions
share a common root. At any rate, I decided to veer away from Wicca and stick with the Druid
business. Everything in Anne's story is taken in some way from Irish or Celtic culture--but of course I
took some poetic licenses with some of the facts. Memoirs is not a book directly about Druids; it's a
book about the problem of love that uses Druid culture to inform and enlighten the issue.

In addition, I used a topographical curiosity in New England--these so-called "beehive mounds" that
have been found in the area, which no one knows the origins of. I adopted them for the story, calling
them "sidhes", or Druid openings into the Otherworld.

Juanita: Why did you choose this particular aspect of history - Celtic mythology, witchcraft, etc. to be
the backdrop of this story?

Thomas: Celtic culture appeals to me in some deep and immediate way, and that's the main reason, I
think. After that, the particular stories and terms of the Celts and Druids seemed easily adaptable to
the story and my purposes. In addition, I've experienced a form of shape-shifting on my own, and so
the phenomenon, often associated with shamanism--but I'm no shaman--seemed a fitting metaphor or
even action for what occurs in love.

Juanita: What statement does "Memoirs of a Shape-Shifter" make about love and power?

Thomas: Power is not love, and if we remember that, it will shift our ideas of love. In other words, that
love shifts our shapes: when we love, we change or allow ourselves to be changed, by our beloved,
by the love itself.

Juanita: Who is your reading audience?

Thomas: The first and intended audience for Memoirs is women, modern women, educated and not
educated women, independent women, mothers, sisters, old women, young women; all women. After
that it's anyone who's interested in love and who worships at love's altar.

Juanita: How important do you feel it is to include magic and mysticism into our lives?

Thomas: I don't think we have to 'include' them because I think they're there, whether we want them
or not. For example, an experience I just alluded to, of a sort of shape-shifting, occurred to me as I
was driving down the highway. I began to have a panic attack, stopped the car, got out, and found
myself running on all fours through the adjacent woods. I say "found myself", meaning that I had not
consciously intended to do that. In fact, I felt like an idiot, of course. The fact that I was running
headlong through the trees, apparently in the guise of some animal I couldn't recognize, both
frightened me and filled me with awe. Was that a kind of magic? I think so; but it came on its own.
Nikki's Aunt Meg in the book says that love is a kind of magic, producing actual effects in our lives and
entering us on its own, when it will. We cannot make love happen, we can only try to welcome it and
be open to it.

Juanita: Thomas, you have been teaching literature and writing at Boston College for nearly 20
years. Tell us more about your passion for the art of writing and what keeps you inspired?

Thomas: Writing...hmm...well, I get bored with anything I do too long, which is why I work as a building
contractor and a teacher as well as a writer. But I do love the act of writing; and I mean "love" in the
usual sense of it's sometimes being a real pain, a discipline, something that asks us to come to it. I got
seduced by fiction when I was in fifth grade and discovered that I could more or less enter the fictional
world by writing a story. For the first time in my life I felt at home. Homesickness propels me, therefore:
writing is going home. --Even when home is not always comfortable and usually takes work, like a
house takes constant work to keep up.

But words themselves again are magic-making. In Memoirs, Nikki has an insight that the old
storytellers wove magic by means of reciting stories. The audience 'saw' the images. If you respect
the reality of the imagination, then hearing a story, or writing one, is magic because it creates before
your eyes an entire world.

Juanita: Who are your favorite authors and what are you presently reading?

Thomas: For teaching, I'm reading Octavia Butler's "Parable of the Talents". For writing my next book
I'm reading a history of Libya. I've also got "The Lovely Bones" open on my end table. My favorite
authors--the ones who "concocted" me, as Anne puts it with regard to her initiation, are the ones I call
the "Dionysian" writers--those who seem to write in a welter: Poe, Whitman, Woolf, Kerouac, Henry
Miller, Thomas Mann, and of course my friend Lawrence Durrell, whom in my estimation is one of the
greatest writers of the 20th century.

Juanita: Well Thomas, it has been a real pleasure talking with you today. "Memoirs of a Shape-
Shifter" will undoubtedly be a great success and inspire women everywhere. Please let your readers
know how they may find out more about you and your endeavors.

Thomas: Readers can read reviews, a synopsis, the first chapter of Memoirs, and get some
biographical information at the publisher's website: www.keplerpress.com, or by going to my own
website, www.tkaplanmaxfield.com. If you click on the picture of the brooch on my website, you'll be
linked to a treasure hunt I set up for the book.

Juanita: Do you have any last thoughts for your readers?

Thomas: I think the change in centuries signals a great shift in our culture. The internet, globalization,
the environment, our government--there are many systems in crisis right now, and crisis always
means much danger as well as opportunity. I wrote "Memoirs" with the very conscious intention of
offering another way of the sexes relating, because I believe that revolutionizing how we see one
another will in turn help our entire planet through this time of transition. We need new paradigms, and
"Memoirs", by hearkening back to other people and times, presents one, a vision of love based on
friendship and mutuality, wherein 'male' and 'female' can be seen perhaps as two colors--red and
blue, for example--instead of opposites. Yes, the genders are different--and vive la difference!--but
different does not mean excluded.
